Walking around the fairytale town of Annecy with my son, last month.
We see a woman sitting on the sidewalk, with her dog. She is asking for money.
As I usually do, I walk over to give her some money.
As I rarely do, I kneel down to pet her dog.
And something warm happens inside of me, as the dog looks at me. Something very subtle and very brief, which makes me ask the woman for her dog's name.
I am fully unsurprised, and yet deeply awed (I love this combo) when she answers... Roxanne.
Life's little winks. The tiny, just-for-us moments that remind us that we're doing fine. In the midst of our chaos, our grief, our creating, our adventuring, or our plain sitting... we are doing fine.
I love these.
Here's to us, to life and to the sweet, sweet Little Winks.
