I love having something special to offer my friends when they come over for a bit. And I really like it when that something special happens to smell really good while it brews.
In the fall, I get super excited to brew batch after batch of Chai Tea (I'll share that recipe again as soon as the leaves start to turn red). In the summer, I like some really good fresh lemonade but somehow I have not been really getting excited about it, this year. And then, last week, sitting right by our luscious mint patch on the deck, Inspiration struck. I love it when that happens. 30 minutes later, we were sipping delicious, bright green, fizzy, minty loveliness. Here is the recipe for my homemade Syrop de Menthe, reminiscent of the Teisseire Syrups which flavored my childood (MUCH better than pop, if you ask me) Summer Syrop de Menthe:
And VOILA! Will you let me know how you like it? PS: In France we have a drink I love called a Diabolo Menthe. It is Syrop de Menthe and 7-up. Hey ... don't diss it till you try it. Come to think of it, we also have Panaché, which is beer and 7-up - and about the only way I like beer. Oh well :) * Simple Syrup:
Last week, during a feral bout of much needed get-in-the-car-and-go, I had the presence of mind to make a quick stop by the library and let a book pick me. Armed with that, a pair of Keens and a bottle of water, I headed for the mountains, only stopping to get a really amazing cup of hot cocoa (second best I ever had) on the road. The book proved to be a powerful companion, and am still savoring it in the back of my mind, still learning from it. For many reasons. This is a book about writing, a book about loving, a book about living. A book about being intentional in the midst of a s*** storm that would have sent most of us packing. Laura Munson's voice is super authentic (she actually wrote the book as a journal, a way to save her sanity during a tough summer, and what do you know, it became her first published work - best seller to boot. I love life. ) So here, you go. This is Not the Story You Think it Is... a Season on Unlikely Happiness. I think you will like it. Oh, and Laura leads writing Retreats, in her home in Montana... just sayin'. XXOXOX Sitting at a red light that just would not turn green, I learn a great little lesson about getting out of my own way. How often we hesitate to do what our heart is trying to tell us, because we are afraid? Afraid to look stupid, afraid to be misunderstood, or even afraid to soften up?
